With over 75 years in the leather business, Seidel is one of the largest producers of high-quality leather in the United States—and the only of Milwaukee's great tanneries which has continuously operated since WWII. However, most know Seidel not for its history, but for its preeminence in work boots, western boots, and all things motorcycle. Despite being kept busy by an impressive list of large and loyal clients, Seidel is a fourth-generation, family-owned business, and they still prefer to do business over milkshakes and handshakes. Torch-bearer Fritz Seidel, Jr. remains committed to working with traditional bootmakers and leatherworkers which represent a modest share of sales, but inspire the tannery to maintain both its tradition of innovation and reputation for quality.
